Student Books are designed to be read with a "friend" who is already a reader, such as a teacher, tutor, family member, or peer. The "friend" reads the Helper Text (always in gray box) and the student reads the Student Text (always in white space). In early books, the Student Text is written in text bubbles.
Students only read words that have been taught or decodable words that are comprised of previously taught letter-sounds.
